Confidential counseling services for cadets, USCC Chain of Command, and supporting staff regarding psychological, behavioral, or developmental concerns relating to cadets.
The Center for Personal Development (CPD) provides comprehensive counseling services to the Corps of Cadets in an accepting and supportive environment. CPD is staffed by Army and civilian clinical psychologists with a broad range of experience providing counseling and behavioral health treatment.
CPD also provides consultation to the USCC Chain of Command and supporting staff (TACs, instructors, sponsors, mentors, and others) regarding psychological, behavioral, or developmental concerns relating to cadets.
Our mission is to “facilitate the personal and professional development of cadets into leaders of character as future Army officers.” The center’s motto, “Know Yourself to Lead Others,” embodies our mission and purpose.
CPD provides individual counseling by licensed clinical psychologists for a variety of cadet concerns. Common issues include stress, anxiety, depression, grief, interpersonal skills, leadership development, time management, decision-making, career issues, eating disorders and weight control, roommate conflicts, academic difficulties, dating, phobias, and crisis management.
The majority of services are provided on an individual basis according to the cadet’s academic schedule. Schedule appointments through CIS (must be logged into the WREN), call extension 3022, email a provider directly, or walk-in to make an appointment
CPD has walk-in hours from 0745 – 1600 for emergency situations unable to wait for a regularly scheduled appointment.
CPD also maintains an after-hours emergency call phone (845-591-7215) and provides 24-hour emergency support through the Keller Army Community Hospital ER.
The Center for Personal Development (CPD) is fully accredited by the International Association of Counseling Services (IACS), the recognized accrediting organization for university and college counseling centers. The center follows privacy and confidentiality guidelines set forth by IACS, the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), the American Psychological Association, and the American College Counseling Association.
Some limits to privacy exist. With few exceptions involving safety and legal issues, information is not shared outside of CPD without the cadet’s written permission. Clinical files are safeguarded and DO NOT become part of the cadet’s medical or military record. Seeking services through CPD will not negatively impact a cadet’s standing.
