
Mr. Todd Messitt

Mr. Todd Messitt graduated from the United States Military Academy in 1987 with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and retired in 2013 after 26 years of commissioned service as an aviation officer. Following Flight School at Fort Rucker Alabama, he served in the 4th Infantry Division at Fort Carson as a Platoon Leader and Company Executive Officer, followed by assignments in Germany to include Regimental S3 Air and Air Troop Commander in the 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment, and Battalion S3 and Air Troop Commander in the 1st Armored Division with a deployment in support of Operation Joint Endeavor.
After returning stateside, he earned his Master of Engineering in Operations Research/Systems Analysis from Old Dominion University and served as an Operations System Analyst within the Training and Doctrine Command at Fort Monroe, Virginia.
After completing the Command and General Staff Officers Course at Fort Leavenworth, KS in 2000, he joined the 10th Mountain Division at Fort Drum, NY where he served as the Division G3 Air and 3-17 Cavalry Squadron Executive Officer. While in the 10th Mountain Division, Messitt deployed to Afghanistan for Operation Enduring Freedom.
Reporting to West Point on R-Day in 2003, 20 years after his initial R-Day, he joined the Department of Military Instruction as the Chief of Military Science and taught both MS100 and MS400. Messitt deployed to Iraq as the Corps Aviation Operations Officer and returned to West Point in 2007 where he served as the Special Assistant to the Commandant for Strategic Planning and the Director of Cadet Activities.
Following retirement in 2013, he hung up the uniform, but continued to serve his alma mater as the G8/Resource Manager for the Commandant of Cadets and currently in the Department of Military Instruction as an Assistant Professor of Military Science.
Messitt earned his Spurs with the 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment and for his service in Aviation and Cavalry units was inducted into both The Order of Saint Michael and The Order of Saint George.
Married to Kelly for over 30 years, they have two adult children.
