MAJ Bates graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Operations Research from West Point in 2014 and was commissioned as an Aviation Officer. After commissioning he branch transferred to Quartermaster and served as a Distribution Platoon Leader, Maintenance Control Officer, Battalion S4, and Company Executive Officer in 2-87 IN BN, 10th MTN DIV. After completing LGCCC he served as a Battalion S-3 and Forward Support Company Commander in the 82nd ABN DIV. After completion of graduate school at North Carolina State University in 2023 he now teaches in the advanced math program at West Point.
